I began writing this story on September 11, 2001. Our Country had just
been attacked and all of us as a Nation stood in horror and shock as
we listened or watched on the T.V. to the morning news as the twin
towers were destroyed, then Washington and Pennsylvania. We all
cried as mothers, fathers, wives, husbands and children perished. We
watched the bravery of fire fighters, medical teams, and the people on
the street corners give all that they could to help each other. And
many died trying.
I began to realize that all of our children, from babies to teenagers of this country, were also watching the news and listening to the adults talk, that had to be so frightening for them so I began my story of Richard the Mouse to send to my grandchildren. It is now time to share it with all children. The future of this great country will be decided by our children, for they will take our place on our soil and around the world. It is our job to guide them. I love to write and I love children of all ages. They have such opened minds and I learned long ago that I also can learn new fresh ideas from them as I answer their questions and teach them my thoughts. I personally treasure the bond between the young and the old, for what is life without this gift? |
